ABSTRACT:
During pregnancy, specialists must carefully assess antimicrobial use since it may pose potential risks to both the mother and the developing embryo. This article provides information on the safety and efficacy of antimicrobials during pregnancy, along with recommended usage guidelines. The article illustrates why cautious antimicrobial application during pregnancy is essential, considering both fundamental therapeutic concerns and potential fetal risk factors. Our suggestions focus on appropriate antimicrobial choices for treating common pregnancy-related infections, including urinary tract infections, Group B streptococcal colonization, and intrauterine infections. This review provides healthcare providers with essential information to make informed antimicrobial decisions during pregnancy, balancing effective treatment of maternal infections with minimizing fetal exposure to teratogens.
