ABSTRACT:
The creation of innovative medication delivery systems is a result of the increased interest in mixing synthetic and herbal medicines for improved therapeutic effects. This study aims to develop and assess a topical emulgel for wound healing and anti-inflammatory applications that combines neem oil, a traditional herbal treatment, with aspirin, a well-known NSAID. In addition to specific emulsifiers, humectants, and penetration enhancers, Carbopol 930 was used as a gelling agent in the formulation's preparation. The F1 formulation outperformed the other two batches in terms of physicochemical properties, such as pH, viscosity, spreadability, and extrudability. Studies on in vitro permeation showed a biphasic drug release profile, with the highest absorption occurring after three hours. Significant antibacterial efficacy against Escherichia coli was demonstrated by the formulation, along with thermal stability, with a maximum inhibition zone. These findings imply that the aspirin-neem oil emulgel combines the advantages of synthetic and herbal pharmacotherapy to provide a promising dual-action therapeutic alternative for localized inflammation and infection control.
